COP27
6-18 November 2022 | Sharm-el Sheikh, Egypt

From sea level rise to extreme weather events, climate change poses significant risks to our collective future. During the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) world leaders in government, business and science will unite to address the  global climate crisis, emphasising adaptation, mitigation, financing and collaboration strategies.

Fugro is proud to participate in COP27. As an invited participant at multiple UN-managed “Blue Zone” sessions, we look forward to advising on how Geo-data can support resilient cities and coasts and improve ocean health for a sustainable ocean economy.

“Our purpose is to create a safe and liveable world together. It is our ambition to support our clients to achieve net zero carbon emissions, enable the development of sustainable infrastructure and strengthen climate resilience.”

Mark Heine, Fugro CEO

Our activities at COP27

12 November | Moroccan Pavilion, Blue Zone

16:30 - 17:45

Following a discussion on the challenge of financing ocean science for climate action, Jaco Stemmet will participate in a panel addressing innovative financing solutions for that same goal. Drawing from Fugro’s involvement with the Ocean Decade, Jaco will address the critical role industry and the private sector can play in developing ocean science that serves the greater good.

12 November | Room 8, Blue Zone

18:30 - 20:00

During the COP27 Official Shipping Side Event, Jaco Stemmet will contribute to discussions about decarbonized shipping. His participation in the Just Transition for Workforce panel will include an overview of Fugro’s path to Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2035. By transitioning to smaller uncrewed surface vehicles and moving toward zero carbon emission fuels on standard vessels, this path to Net Zero also improves opportunities for diversity, equity and inclusion in Fugro’s workforce.

15 November | Innovation Zone

17:00 - 17:45

Robert Hoddenbach will join this roundtable discussion, hosted by the Global Covenant of Mayors, the largest global alliance for city climate leadership across the globe.
